T²CAS: Terrain Advisory Line (TAL)

# 2
A unique feature of the GCAM THD is the Terrain Advisory Line (TAL).
Caption: A unique feature of the GCAM THD is the Terrain Advisory Line (TAL). Conventional TAWS situation displays show terrain relative to the current aircraft altitude, but give no idea of where an alert will occur. The TAL (yellow line in the preceding diagram) provides the crew with an indication of where the Caution Alert will occur should they continue with the current flight path. The length and direction of the alert line mirrors the cautionary terrain segment within 30° either side of the aircraft flight path, out to two minutes in front of the aircraft.

T²CAS: Caution

# 3
The Collision Prediction & Alerting (CPA) sensor indicates an alert, depicted by a solid yellow area.

T²CAS: Pull-Up

# 4
Caption: When the CPA depicts a potential Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) conflict, it will determine whether the aircraft has sufficient climb capability to clear the terrain by a standard vertical maneuver (Pull Up). If the CPA determines that the aircraft cannot clear the terrain with a "Pull Up" maneuver, the terrain associated with the alert is highlighted with a solid red color.

T²CAS: Avoid Terrain

# 5
Caption: Another unique feature of the T²CAS is the Terrain Hazard Display (THD), depicted with red/black stripe pattern. When the CPA sensor detects that the aircraft does not have sufficient climb capability to clear terrain by a standard vertical recovery maneuver, it generates a uniquely identifiable "Avoid Terrain" alert. The "Avoid Terrain" alert initiates the THD pattern and is quickly recognized by the operator as terrain that cannot be cleared.
